Women Pilots Invite You to Join Them

Learn about aviation in a fun way

Thousands of women pilots have landed in Orlando, and they want to share their love of aviation with you, according to Dr. Peggy Chabrian, president of Women in Aviation International. At the 28th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference scheduled for March 2-4, 2017 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, two special events are open to the general public.

If you’ve always been intrigued by learning to fly, Women in Aviation International presents a free seminar, hosted by renowned aviation educators John and Martha King. In this informal, roundtable discussion, scheduled for Saturday, March 4 from 10:30 am to 12:15 pm, John and Martha answer any questions you may have in explaining the facts and figures in becoming a pilot as well as how to get started. Local area flight instructors will also be on hand to provide information and inspiration.

“We have added two exciting inducements to attend this seminar,” says Dr. Chabrian. “Participants will be entered into a drawing for $500 to be used for flight training. In addition, everyone who attends this fun seminar will have access to our exhibit hall and be able to tour the displays of dozens of aviation companies and associations, and talk to aviation professionals from all areas of the industry.”

Girls in Aviation Day Orlando is an ongoing program to interest girls ages 8 to 17 in the lifestyle and career advantages in the aviation industry. This all-day event, also held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, is also open to the general public. The all-girl robotic team, TEAM FETCH from University High School in Orlando will also be there to teach attendees about robotics.  Many high-energy and engaging hands-on activities, speakers, and a luncheon, featuring World Aerobatic Champion Patty Wagstaff, are on the agenda.

Older girls will be able to meet with representatives from aviation colleges, universities, and branches of the U.S. military. There will be no shortage of role models for the girls as they hear from actual working women about their unique aviation careers. Flying a simulator, reading a sectional chart, learning the phonetic alphabet, building an airport, learning to code: It’s all part of Girls in Aviation Day Orlando.

“We love to see the great enthusiasm girls bring to this event,” says Dr. Chabrian. “We are confident that we are helping to build a diverse aviation community for the future.”

The cost to participate in Girls in Aviation Day Orlando is $10 a girl (which includes lunch). Girls must be accompanied by an adult. Chaperones and parents are invited to take part in lunch for $10 per person.
