NEWS RELEASE 12-08
July 26, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Women in Aviation, International and Learning for Life today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join forces in order to find common ground and complement each other's resources in order to promote aviation careers among youth from kindergarten to high school.
WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Women in Aviation, International and National Learning for Life Executive Director Dr. Diane Thornton signed the Memorandum for National Learning for Life.
"In the past year, we began the dialog with Learning for Life when Dr. Thornton spoke at our 2012 Conference in Dallas," says Dr. Chabrian. "We turned our attention to younger girls at last year's Conference with a successful program which involved the children of our members as well as Dallas-area Girl Scouts."
A crucial component going forward will be to encourage Women in Aviation's 76 regional chapters to form a relationship with Aviation Explorer posts in their area. What's more, WAI chapters may also form their own Aviation Explorer post as an adjunct to chapter activities.
On hand to witness the signing ceremony was Sporty's Founder and Chairman Hal Shevers who has long promoted youth programs in aviation. Shevers is currently chair of the Aviation Exploring committee within the National Learning for Life program.
"Forming strategic alliances among groups will benefit all of us in aviation," added Dr. Chabrian. "We look forward to creating dynamic and productive programs with Dr. Thornton and Learning for Life in the years ahead."
